 Alternative Agriculture
Sustainable farming practices and natural product research makes up approximately half of Pacific Ag's business and ongoing activities.

We serve as consultants to some of the largest organic farming operations in the world. In addition, we successfully compete with universities and other public sector scientists for grants from state and federal agencies. These sources have funded some of our organic production research, which study methods to maximize yields of strawberries, leafy and fruiting vegetables, and tree and vine crops.

We conduct ongoing studies of pesticide alternatives, natural products for pest control, biological control organisms, and other alternative farming methods.

Pacific Ag provides:

  • Plant breeding for pest tolerance.

  • Implementation of organic technology.

  • On-site demonstrations of alternative farming methods.

  • Alternative strawberry nursery production without soil fumigation.

  • Educational seminars and workshops.

For organic farmers the front line of defense is alternative tolerant crop varieties, effective natural controls, and use of approved natural products. Because we are certified organic farmers ourselves, Pacific Ag employs real-world solutions to pest management challenges under National Organic Program (NOP) guidelines.

Pacific Ag is well known as a private and confidential source on alternatives to conventional foliar pest controls and the controversial soil fumigant, methyl bromide. This expertise comes from over 15 years as a leader in non-methyl bromide fumigated strawberry and tomato crop production.

Pacific Ag has helped develop numerous new certified organic pest control and fertility products for small to medium sized manufacturers. These products often begin as crude extracts or fermentation products with limited use potential. Following a well-planned and executed field development and registration program, many of these products are used throughout the organic farming sector. The organic food industry is increasing at an average rate of 20% per year and is the only agricultural sector with this level of sustained growth.
